~~~
History: From the earliest times, Kojirou had all he could ever want—except love. His parents were rich, they always had things their way, they controlled everything, and they wanted to control his life as well. Not guide, or instruct, or rebuke, or even discipline: control.
They had his course of life decided from before the time he was born. He would be a gentleman, married to their rich neighbor’s daughter in order to continue the family line. There was no other possibility. No compromise.
His life only truly became a disastrous nightmare when he reached the age of five and he and Bradbury's daughter met. She was domineering and had a way of stressing her point. She also had a whip.
Often he would run out into one of the gardens with his pet and only friend, Gardei, crying and telling him of all his troubles. How he just wanted to be left alone and not have every area of his life scrutinized and critiqued.
Around the time when he would have given up hope, he met a certain young fire sprite girl. Her spirit encouraged him. She didn’t judge him. And though she lived out in the street with nowhere to call home and no possessions of her own, she seemed happy and vivacious. They met often and he began to think he had another friend. But one day she disappeared and never returned to the Sakaki Estate.
Grieved beyond measure, Kojirou soon ran away from his home in search of her. But having come from such a pampered background, he didn’t know how to survive on the streets. He lost all his money and spent many days hungry.
It was in this state that a Rocket Gang member found him, offering him a promise of contentment and a loving family. It was only too late that he realized the false pretence under those promises. But after a year or two, he was happily rejoined with the fire sprite, the very same one. They were partners, and when she decided to leave the Gang, Kojirou followed her into TEAM. Unfortunately, his hesitance at expressing his feelings for her resulted in cruel heartbreak for him as she slipped away from him towards another.
Kojirou is a patient, sweet, polite young man. He may come across as aloof however in how withdrawn and quiet he is. He hides both his overwhelming strength and pitiable weaknesses behind a mask of calm indifference. He is a loyal TEAM member and spends most of his time away from the others on missions; probably he spends most his time busy to cope with this loss.
I burst through the double doors of my mansion, tears streaming down my face. “Please leave me alone! I can’t stand it anymore!" I ran until my lungs burned. "She’s still following me?!" I looked back. She was chiding me for not running properly.
I ran faster. "Maybe running properly gives you inexhaustible stamina. I’m going to pass out." Bright spots flashed in front of my eyes. Finally, I collapsed. Nearly an hour later, I woke up shirtless and bound hand and foot. "Not again…."
"Now Kojirou, dear….You know you’re not supposed to run away like that. So, I am going to have to teach you a lesson!" She stood over me, whip in hand. Pure horror flooded me; stinging pain streaked across my right shoulder. She started in earnest.
Upstairs, my parents sipped
tea while listening to their son’s tortured screams. "They
play so well together," Sakaki commented.
